W’md School Board starts search for a new superintendent

The Virginia School Board Association’s Gina Patterson met last Thursday with Westmoreland School Board members and the result was the board’s immediate release of the timeline that will govern efforts to replace outgoing division superintendent Elaine Fogliani.
Elaine Fogliani served as Westmoreland County School superintendent for six years. At the strike of midnight on Aug. 31 the Charlottesville native became a member of the University of Virginia faculty.

 
Commission revises draft Comp Plan

The Westmoreland Planning Commissioners, District Planning Office staff and nine county residents worked non-stop for two and a half hours this Monday afternoon to improve the language in a new Comp Plan’s final draft.
The commission conducted the advertised public hearing on the document in July and was poised to complete its comprehensive planning effort on Aug. 2, when District 3 Supervisor Lynn Brownley rocked the meeting room with critical remarks.

 
$44M in pot seized

Richmond County Sheriff’s Office discovered 14,000 marijuana plants
Local law enforcement authorities received a tip last Wednesday that may have uncovered the presence of a violent Mexican drug cartel here on the Northern Neck.
With help from federal, state agencies and other local Sheriff’s Offices, the tip resulted in the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office’s confiscation and destruction of a $44 million marijuana crop and an arrest of one illegal alien.
In a phone interview on Tuesday morning, Richmond County Sheriff Douglas A. Bryant minced no words when praising the law enforcement agencies that provided their assistance and continue to lend specialized support.
