Fatal accident in Westmoreland PDF  | Print |  E-mail
At 4:34 p.m. Friday afternoon, Nov. 4, Virginia State Police responded to a two vehicle crash on Route 202, Cople Highway approximately 1/4 of a mile east of Route 626, Beales Mill Road in Westmoreland County.
 
The crash occurred when the driver of a 2012 Honda Crosstour heading east on Route 202 crossed over the double yellow line and struck a 2005 Thomas School Bus.
 

The male driver and a female passenger in the Honda both died at the scene.  The driver of school bus # 47, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was flown by med-flight to the Mary Washington Hospital.  There were no students on board the bus at the time of the crash.

 
The crash remains under investigation.  The Westmoreland County Sheriff's Office assisted with traffic control and diverting traffic around the scene.  Route 202 was closed for nearly four hours to allow for the investigation and to tow both vehicles from the scene.
 

Deceased Honda Driver:  James A. Brown, 77, of 400 block of Madge Marsh Lane, Heathsville

Deceased Honda Passsenger:  Elizabeth Stokes, 70, of 400 block of Madge Marsh Lane, Heathsville

Injured Bus Driver: Beverly Smith, 65, of 300 block of Sonnet Lane, Montross
