As this edition of The Journal goes to press, the owner and operator of Good Eats Restaurant, Stephen C. Andersen, is being arraigned in the Westmoreland General District Court on the charge of violating a protective order.
Andersen lost his wife, Sally Rumsey, during one of this year’s winter weather episodes and the woman’s mysterious death is still the subject of a continuing Westmoreland Sheriff’s Office investigation.
County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Andersen at his restaurant on the afternoon of Saturday, July 10. He was transported to Northern Neck Regional Jail, where he was held without bond pending the outcome of the July 13 arraignment.

The Sheriff’s Office has declined to comment as to the particulars of the protective order Andersen is alleged to have violated. That office additionally has refrained from offering comment about its continued investigation of Rumsey’s death.
Rumsey had just returned from a bicycle trip in Vietnam to the Oldhams home she shared with Andersen. According to Andersen’s statement to police authorities, the couple quarreled and Rumsey was missing from the home when Andersen returned from walking his dogs on Feb. 5.
On Feb. 7 Andersen reported his wife’s absence to the Westmoreland Sheriff’s Office. A search was initiated and Rumsey’s body was located near the home on Feb. 9.
Subpoena and other records the Sheriff’s Office filed in the Westmoreland Circuit Court during the initial period of the investigation were later sealed. DNA from Andersen, a computer, other electronic items and even a wine bottle were gathered as potential evidence by the police authorities. It is believed that those items are still being evaluated at the state forensics lab.
Several months ago the state coroner ruled that Rumsey died from exposure to the cold. The Sheriff’s Office, however, made it known it will continue its investigation of the death.
Before the courthouse records were sealed, a police document was discovered that included content characterizing the inquiry as a possible murder investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office has at no time either stated or implied that Andersen is suspect in a possible murder investigation. Rumsey is survived by Andersen, two daughters, one stepson, her mother, one brother and one sister
