Garden Club Conservation Symposium Scheduled for February 16

On Tuesday, February 16, the Garden Club of the Northern Neck will host its 10th annual Conservation Symposium.  Presented this year in partnership with the Garden Club of the Middle Peninsula, the program will explore the “Economics of Energy Conservation” and will be held at the Council House at Stratford Hall in Westmoreland County.  Mr. Jerry Walker, Henrico County’s Energy Manager and Senior Engineer, will be the featured speaker and will explore the topic from both public and private perspectives.

Mr. Walker is an accredited LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) professional and director of the Virginia Sustainable Building Network and has worked for over seventeen years in the energy and energy management business.  In response to homeowners’ emphasis on responsible investment, he will discuss energy efficiency as an investment strategy as well as the current state of energy efficiency in our region and the politics influencing legislative measures in relation to “green” technology.  There will be a question and answer period following his presentation.

The Garden Clubs of the Northern Neck and the Middle Peninsula urge the public to attend this thought-provoking discussion of issues that directly affect our lives. There is no charge and reservations are not required.  Refreshments will be provided in the Council House at 10 a.m. and the program will begin at 10:30.  Lunch will be available for $20 in the Stratford Hall Dining Room, advance reservations required by February 5. Checks should be made out to GCMP “Stratford Hall Lunch” and mailed to Randy Brown, P. O. Box 2764, Tappahannock, VA 22560.
