Suspect in Nov. 18 shooting is arraigned PDF  | Print |  E-mail

The Westmoreland Sheriff’s Office reports that 19-year-old Kewaine Lendell Jones was arrested Thanksgiving morning at Neenah in the Jenkins trailer park.
Jones was arraigned on Tuesday, Dec. 1 in the county’s General District Court on felony charges of aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the Nov. 18 shooting incident.
According to published reports, 25-year-old Tyrell O. Brown was flown by helicopter to Mary Washington Hospital after being shot in his right cheek. The gunshot victim, whose condition was initially described as critical, has been released and is recovering from the wound.
The shooting occurred approximately three-tenths of a mile from Cople Elementary School and multiple county schools were placed in lock-down immediately after law enforcement authorities received notification of the incident.
Local Sheriff’s Office employees received assistance from the State Police as dogs and officers spent the next several hours combing nearby wooded areas in search of an armed man who had abandoned his motor vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
