King George native, and Golden Gloves boxing athlete Paul Jerry has a whole new perspective on life now that he has experienced the culture of Northern Ireland.
Most recently, a Washington, D.C. area delegation of boxers, the Belfast Beltway Boxing Project, and coaches that featured Jerry and his father and personal coach, Anthony Murrill, were given an opportunity to box and tour Belfast Northern Ireland. The mission for the American team was

On Tuesday, at the Drifterdome, during their second seasonal match-up, the Drifters boys varsity team redeemed an earlier loss (73-63) last month, by defeating Washington & Lee 61-50. Elated over his team’s victory, Drifter boys varsity head coach Jonathan Parker said, “It was a great team effort tonight. We’ve been playing rival teams tough, but lost a number of games in a row. I am very proud of the boys, because we came out and fought for 32 minutes.”

It was wrestle-mania at its best. On Sunday, nearly 500 aspiring wrestlers from the Northern Va. area, ages 5 to 14, gathered at the King George High School (KGHS) to showcase their athletic abilities in front of packed gymnasium.
Hosted by the King George Youth Wrestling Club (KGYWC), the event was first event of its kind in the county. Based on a round-robin format, wrestlers were allowed to compete three times

It’s been quite a ride this past five years for 27 year old King George native Jermon Bushrod. A multi sport athlete and 2002 graduate of King George High School, Bushrod then attended Towson University.
A standout at left tackle for the Towson Tigers throughout his college career, Bushrod was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. For the first two seasons Bushrod sat on the bench backing up the Saints All-pro left tackle Jammal Brown.
When Brown went down with an injury in 2009 Bushrod assumed the starting left tackle slot and hasn’t looked

Paul Jerry’s quest to attain amateur boxing notoriety continues. On Jan. 18 the King George resident and University of Maryland Eastern Shore junior will step beyond American ringside Golden Glove competition. He will join the Belfast-Belway Boxing Project, which is an American delegation of 12 Washington, DC area boxers, 11-20 years old (weight classes ranging from bantamweight to heavyweight) traveling to Belfast, Ireland, with the aim of promoting international cultural exchange.
The Belfast-Beltway Boxing Project is a Washington, DC based non-profit group organization committed to providing support for at-risk youth.
The American boxing delegation will leave on Jan. 18, and arrive in Ireland on Jan. 19. The fights will take place on Saturday, Jan. 21. Prior to their impending flight, the delegation will have a meet & greet pizza celebration in Washington, DC.
