Anglers are having a ball when they go out. Most have switched to hunting with muzzleloader season opening. Hunting has picked up noticeably.
Rappahannock River
The river looked good. Few anglers are going out. Catfish are reportedly hitting though.
Potomac River
Aqua Land reported some catfish hitting eels and cutbait. Some perch are hitting nightcrawlers and bloodworms and rockfish are biting right on the beach now.
Lakes and Ponds
Ponds are good for late year bassing. Jumbo minnows will take the fish and then you have crappie that will hit
slowly jigged minnows too. Old Cossey Pond in Fredericksburg should be stocked soon for trout anglers.
Lake Anna Guide Service reported some striper action near Pigeon Creek. Check it out at mccotterslakeanna.blogspot.com
Saltwater
Captain Ryan Rogers (804-580-0245) said fishing for rockfish has been quite good. His clients also are still occasionally catching bluefish! It is Nov. but the fish must not know. It won’t be long before the large trophy fish are being caught.
Hunting—
Deer — The rut is near, very near if not started. Scrapes are everywhere, bucks have been chasing does and the rubs are everywhere too. It seems that more deer are active later in the afternoon and evening as of late. Of course that is subject to change.
Pern’s (775-7817) reported five deer checked this weekend. One was a nine point and two were does. We appreciate hunters stopping by to check deer in. If you want your picture in the paper email us the pic.

Dutch’s had five deer checked as well. One was an 8 point buck.
Duck — Reports from USFWS show that spring breeding went well. Many duck numbers are reportedly up. If we get some cold weather it should be a good season if you have a place to hunt.
