HOT, HOT, and more HOT, but as you read this we are getting a break. The fish are still biting!
Rappahannock River
Ken’s Tackle (898-1011) reports that an angler using a dead minnow for catfish while night fishing on the Rapidan River caught a 9 pound bass. Small catfish are hitting in the river too. Alligator gar are also present in the lower reaches.
Down at Tappahannock the croaker are biting shrimp.
Potomac River
Shady Lane Seafood (804-224-7878) reported that the croaker appear to have moved right up on shore and are hitting shrimp around Bluff Point and Colonial Beach. They are also reporting white perch on spoons. The rockfish are turning on right at dusk on bucktails and sassy shads. The morning bite slacked off. Jumbo crabs are in next week at Shady Lane!
Squid has also worked when drifting for croaker this week around Aqua Land and the Power Plant. Some very nice white perch hit Berkley’s Gulp Bloodworms too.
Ken’s Tackle reported nice croaker, spot, trout and flounder down around Calleo this week. Bluefish are also in the mix. Tiny blues are feeding among rockfish near Swan Point.
Inland waters
Motts (786-8989) reports continued great bass action this week on plastic worms. Many bass in the 2-5 pound range are being caught. One citation bass was caught with some near misses again. The night catfish event was a success with more than 20 catfish caught by the nature pier alone. Chicken liver was a popular bait.
Saltwater
In the lower bay the action for spadefish, sheepshead and triggerfish is good around the CBBT. Spanish are around Deltaville and anglers are trolling and catching them. A few were caught around Reedville as well. Flounder of keeper size are more regular now. The Cell and #42 are popular areas. Some very nice bluefish and rockfish are being caught by Capt. Ryan Rogers (804-580-0245) of The Midnight Sun.
