OUTDOOR REPORT - November 18, 2009

The large amount of rain from the storm left many rivers and streams flooded and made fishing very tough. Hunting was average for deer and good for small game once the rain let up.

Potomac River

Shady Lane Seafood, (804) 224-7878, reported that the rockfish that was reported at 47 pounds was just barely under 48 inches. It was caught by an 82-year-old angler. As of press time we did have a pulse on the rockfishing. The birds are still here and if there is plenty of bait in the area, hopefully the rockfish are still here. Some nice rockfish from 25 pounds to 35 pounds were around.

Rappahannock River

The river was high and fishing was tough. No report this week. The bass and crappie ought to be hitting along deep structure once the water level goes down. Try minnows.

Inland waters

Pond action should be very good with minnows slowly trolled or jigged near treetops and logs. Move slowly, make longer casts and fish on warmer days.

Saltwater

Captain Ryan Rogers, owner of the Midnight Sun, (804) 580-0245, reported that the rockfish, the BIG rockfish are here. He caught many in the 40-pound class already. This is a great start to the fall trophy fishing. Give him a call if you want in on the action.

Hunting

Perns Supermarket, (540) 775-7817, reported 12 deer this week. The biggest was a 7 point. Be sure and stop by to check your deer, possibly get a pic we can run, and a cold soda or snack.
