A teenager is dead following a motor vehicle crash in King George County that took place early Sunday morning (May 9, 2010). At 1:09 a.m.,Virginia State Police Trooper T. D. Green was called to the scene on Route 218, Caledon Road near Basil Road.
A 1999 Isuzu Amigo was traveling eastbound on Route 218 when the driver ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole before overturning several times. The driver and three of the four passengers were then ejected from the vehicle. Those who were ejected were not wearing their safety belts.
Two were flown by med-flight and three others were transported by ambulance to Mary Washington Hospital with serious injuries. One of the passengers flown to the hospital, Anthony L. Feather, 16, later died from his injuries.
The teenagers, ages 16 –18, were heading to the King George County High School after Prom Party at the time of the crash. Speed is considered a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation at this time.

May 5th meeting!!! The Chamber received information from Gary D. Mitchell, Director of Planning, Community Development via Town Manager, Val Foulds asking that we pass the following information to all of our CBCOC membership.
The Town of Colonial Beach has been determined eligible for a Planning Grant to reinvigorate Downtown Colonial Beach.. The proposed area identified as the “Downtown” runs along Colonial Avenue to Washington to Boundary to the River, then along the River back to Colonial Avenue.
One of the first steps in this process is to hold a community meeting to explain the project and its scope to the public. The eventual goal of this process is to develop a sustainable economic development program for the Town and to invest (if awarded) grant funds to beautify the “Downtown Area”. The beautification may include the relocation of power lines underground, replace/repair sidewalks, install street lights and repair/replace water/sewer lines and may even include façade improvement program for any interested business owner. However, we need your support and attendance to make this successful. The initial Public meeting will be held on May 5, 2010, at the Town Center Building on 22 Washington Street, beginning approximately at 6:00 P.M.

The King George School Board this week approved a different school calendar for next year, 2010-11, which is markedly different from the original calendar they approved on March 22.
The main differences with the newly-approved school calendar are that a week off for spring break is before the Easter holiday, winter break is three days shorter, and school gets out in June a week earlier.
Director of Personnel Bill Wishard provided an oral report at Monday’s meeting on April 19.
