W&L’s Lewis makes NN Sports’ Wall of Fame

Washington & Lee High School Athletic Director Malcolm Lewis has been inducted into the Northern Neck Sports Wall of Fame. Lewis, a popular former varsity football coach at W&L, was inducted at a weekend ceremony at Dreamfields in Kilmarnock.
Placid Bay man arrested for child pornography

Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36-year old Edwin L. Pope of 155 Lea Road in Placid Bay, on receiving information from King George Sheriff’s Office that Pope may be reproducing child pornography.
The arrest took place on Friday, April 12. Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office, executing a search warrant, took Pope into custody at his home without incident. Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office assisted in recovering electronic devices and equipment, to include computers and cell phones during the search. Gloucester also assisted in recovering data from the devices recovered.
Pope has been charged with ten counts of reproduction of child pornography. He will be held without bond at the Northern Neck Regional Jail until his first court appearance on Tuesday, April 16, in Westmoreland General District Court.
The investigation is ongoing and further charges may be pending according to Sheriff C.O. Balderson.

Ball playing Baldersons have a bright future

Haley Balderson dreams of being a physical therapist. Her twin brother, Carrington, would like to be a major league pitcher some day. In the meantime, while waiting for their futures to develop, the ball playing Baldersons are high school sports and academic stars at Washington & Lee High School. And, if the present is an indication of the future, the days ahead for the Balderson twins are bright indeed.
W’md BOS press for new traffic light

The Westmoreland Board of Supervisors has again made plain to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) that the county needs a new traffic light installed on Route 205 at its intersection with Route 628, near Hall’s Grocery, on the road between Oak Grove and Colonial Beach.

Montross revitalization efforts back on schedule

Montross Town Council has taken steps to resolve issues that have held up the execution of the contract between the town and the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (VDHCD) allowing the town to start work on revitalization efforts.
Until the contract is signed, the town can not began work or utilize the $500,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) awarded by the VDHCD.

Harp guitarist, Stephen Bennett, will play a special Concert at Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church in Montross at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 12.
