Coker Family YMCA Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 1 Mile

On Thanksgiving Day, 177 kids from Fredericksburg and the surrounding counties gathered to compete in the annual Coker Family YMCA Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot Mile.

While the race did not have the usual historic ambiance of downtown Fredericksburg, its new location allowed families acres of parking in the Wegman’s shopping center parking lot. With race coordinators dressed up in whimsical turkey costumes, kids were treated to a host of holiday imagery. The race took place in front of the Expo Center, on Carl D. Silver Parkway.

While the race featured mostly Fredericksburg area runners, some runners traveled from as far as Sewickley, Pa., and Crozet for a chance to join in the race. Forty-nine runners from King George participated.
