Ringing in 2013 with Resolution 5K Run

On Tuesday, New Year’s Day, 217 runners brought in the year 2013 the only way they knew how, by running in the annual Resolution 5K Run.
The race took place at the Massad YMCA in Fredericksburg. Race enthusiasts wearing everything from tiaras to football jerseys raced through the fields adjacent to the Massad YMCA. The race is part of a yearly series of Fredericksburg area races managed by Race Timing, Unlimited.
The next race for Race Timing is the Sweethearts 4 Ever 4 Mile Run. The race will take place on Feb. 10, at the Massad YMCA.
In the women’s division, 22-year-old Fredericksburg resident, Sarah Lasker captured the first place overall award with a time of 19:23. As for the men, 22-year-old Fredericksburg native Joseph Murray finished first with a time of 15:50. Vincent Jeter was the top finisher from King George with a fourth place finish in the 20-29-group (20:16).
The runners from King George in the women’s division included: Amie Nester, 30-39, 19th, 32:11; Melissa Hostutler, 30-39, 29th, 40:36; Michele Shipman, 30-39, 33rd, 43:10; Karyl-Lynne Tirk, 40-49, 18th, 34:27; Ethel Guerrero, 50-59, 13th, 37:41.
The runners from King George in the men’s division included: Vincent Jeter, 20-29, 4th, 20:16; Howard Thomas, 50-59, 19th, 26:25.
First place women’s runners included: Sarah Lasker, overall, Fredericksburg, 19:23; Erin Rysanck, 19 & under, Stafford, 24:18; Grace Latz, 20-29, Philadelphia, PA, 24:01; Kristen Long, 30-39, Stafford, 21:46; Julia Smith, 40-49, Tappahannock, 22:39; Leslie Rigby Kash, 50-59, Roundhill, 24:39; Mary Wallace, 60-69, Palm Beach, FL, 31:09; Lori Potter, 70 & over, Lorton, 54:17.
