NARFE Northern Neck Chapter 1823 will meet at 1 p.m. for a wine tasting and special hors d’oeuvres at General’s Ridge Vineyard and Winery, 1618 Weldons Dr., Hague. Children ages 5-15 are invited to a FREE clinic on June 8 at the Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge at Wilna Pond in Warsaw from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. on Saturday, June 8. The free clinic will be from 9–10 a.m. Pre-register at (804) 333-1470.  Please call early as space is limited!!!  Registrations will be accepted May 23 – June 6.  All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge and the Rappahannock River Valley Wildlife Refuge Friends are sponsoring this exciting, fun-filled day of fishing.

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 89 2nd Blood Drive of 2013. Noon- 6 p.m. at the Legion Hall, 10021 Dahlgren Road (across from Dutch’s). Present to donate blood or platelets between 4/1 and 6/30 to be eligible to win one of three $1000 gift cards offered by the American Red Cross.

Annual Oak Grove High School Alumni Luncheon will be held at 1 p.m. at The Riverboat on the Potomac in Colonial Beach. Ordering will be done from the menu. This not just a luncheon for graduates, but for anyone with an interest pertaining to OGHS who would like to attend.

Feds sign off on Nice Bridge planning study


The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) announced last week that the final environmental document for the Nice Bridge Improvement Project was recently approved by the Federal Highway Administration, which marks an end to the project’s planning phase for eventual construction of a new bridge.
