Mertine Whiting, 74, of King George County passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013.
Mertine was born in Caroline County, Virginia. She is now resting in the arms of the Lord.
She leaves to cherish loving memories, one son, Shelton Whiting, Baltimore, MD; two grandchildren, Shelton Whiting, Jr., and Charlena Peyton; four great-grandchildren; mother, Irene Whiting Jefferson of King George; three sisters, Phyllis Jackson (Willie), Julia Scranage (Perry), Marva Smith (Hugh); six brothers, Kelly Jefferson (Ernestine), Wilson D. Jefferson (Barbara), Oliver Jefferson (Brenda), Stanley Jefferson (Adrian), Harold Jefferson (Pamela), and Darrell Jefferson; five aunts, Dorothy Washington, Mabel Yancey, Helen Johnson and two special aunts, Winnie B. Pryor, Gladys Pryor; a host of nieces and nephews. She was fond of her many cousins that grew up around her. Phyllis and Willie were her caregivers and they both were a strong tower of inspiration in her life.
Mertine was never without a smile or a compliment for those that approached her. She had an eye for fashion and was quick to compliment. She enjoyed going to the Rappahannock Area on Aging in King George where she loved to do crafts and other activities that made her happy.
She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Cedell Brooks Funeral Home, Port Royal. Burial will be private. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the American Heart Association.
