Anne Skinner Denson, 93, longtime resident of Colonial Beach, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Anne was a former owner/manager of Denson’s Grocery in Colonial Beach with her husband, Bernard F. Denson. She was also a teacher’s aide at Colonial Beach Elementary and Woodland Academy. Anne was a well-known and loved caregiver to many in the Colonial Beach area and a member of Colonial Beach United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Denson Hollowell of King George; a son, Rocky Denson (Blaire) of Colonial Beach; four brothers, Wayne, Jimmy, John and Kenneth Skinner, all of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Nellie Pugh and Lois Purks, both of Fredericksburg; nine grandchildren, Janet Foster, Angela Haas, Karen Myers, Lisa Gandy, Amanda Preston, Bernard Denson, Lauren Wilson, Elizabeth Ann Denson and Katherine Denson; and 12 loving great-grandchildren.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard F. Denson, and a daughter, Jetta Denson Pugh.
A funeral was held Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Oak Grove, with the Rev. Randall Snipes and the Rev. Yunho Eo officiating. Interment followed in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oak Grove. A reception followed in the church fellowship hall.
