Douglas B. “Bernie” Hubbard Sr., 78, of Colonial Beach passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital after a long illness.
He was a local contractor for more than 35 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and also enjoyed his daily episode of “Law & Order: SVU.”
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, June D. Hubbard; his children, Douglas B. Hubbard Jr. (Ella) of King George, M. Susan Shipp (Jim) of Winchester, Mary Ann Chaffin (John) of Daytona Beach, FL, Cathy Rodriguez (Frank) of Berwyn Heights, MD., Scott Hubbard of Fredericksburg, Stacy Hubbard (Kim) of Jacksonville, FL; 10 grandchildren, Carrie Braxton, Sherri Di Toto, Tony Di Toto, Christopher Hubbard, Matthew Hubbard, Patricia Hubbard, Michael Hubbard, Kelly Cope, Matthew Rodriguez and Amber Hubbard; seven great-grandchildren: and four stepchildren, Sonny Grimley, Michael Grimley, Jay Grimley and Shelley Grimley Moreland.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Hubbard; mother Arnita Hubbard; brother Clifton “Bill” Hubbard; and his children, George Hubbard and Linda Hubbard (twins), and Bertha Hubbard; and stepson Jan Grimley.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Colonial Beach American Legion. A private burial service will be on Friday, Feb. 8, in Hampton, VA.
