Ralph Wayne McGinniss, 91, of King George County went to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at his home, Irish Acres.
Born on May 21, 1921, on the family farm near Index, he attended Shiloh School as a young boy and then went on to King George High School. After school, he helped his family on the farm, raising crops and tending to the livestock. Ralph was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He served his country as an aviation ordinanceman in the Navy during WWII. Ralph retired after 38 years at the Main Range at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren as a supervisor. He was a lifetime member of Shiloh Baptist Church, which his late parents helped to start. He served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. Ralph served his community as a member of the King George School Board, the Board of Supervisors and as PTA president. He was a lifetime member and former Commander of American Legion Post 89.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Dorothy McGinniss; his brother, Merle McGinniss; five children, Ralph Wayne McGinniss Jr. (Ellen), of King George, Jack McGinniss (Cathy), of King George, Dianne Sartin (Bill), of Crestview, FL, Lynne Mitchell (David), of King George and Sandy Lay (Nick), of Kure Beach, NC; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Shiloh Baptist Church.
Burial with Navy honors followed in the church cemetery. A reception followed in the New Life Center at the church.
