William Edgar “Mann” Sullivan, 96, of the Passapatanzy community of King George County died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013.
Mr. Sullivan served in World War II as an airplane mechanic in the Navy. He later worked at Marine Corps Base Quantico and American Viscose Plant and retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center as a refrigeration mechanic.
He and his late wife, Bernice C. Sullivan, were charter members of Fairview Beach Volunteer Fire Department. He was the oldest member of the King George Volunteer Fire Department.
He had played semi-pro baseball and was a member of the Sullivan softball team in White Oak for many years. He loved to bird hunt with his good friends, Mike Cherwek and Harry Bradshaw.
Mr. Sullivan was a member of Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his children, Edgar Wayne “Dickie” Sullivan (Geraldine) of Passapatanzy; Ellen June “Sis” Sullivan Clift (Jerry) of King George; William Lewis “Pete” Sullivan (Judy) of Passapantanzy; eight grandchildren, Darrell Sullivan, Darlene Sullivan, Robert Clift, Gary Clift (Tammy), Leah Clift, Janet Clift, Billy Sullivan and Kevin Sullivan; nine great-grandchildren, Sarah Marshall Castelow (Jerry), Emily Clift Innes (Rich), Morgan Clift, Katie Fisher, Nikki Clift, Brandon Clift, Ronnie and Kevin Sullivan and Breanna Sullivan.
A graveside service was held Sunday, Jan. 13, at Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Clift, Gary Clift, Darrell Sullivan, Billy Sullivan, Kevin Sullivan and Earl Payne.
