Eugene Miller, 72, of King George County died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at his home. He was born Nov. 5, 1939, in Chicago, the son of Jesse and Linda Fister Miller.
Mr. Miller earned his Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Kent State University in 1961. He then enrolled in graduate studies in mathematics at Michigan State University and later at the University of Maryland.
He moved to King George County in 1965 and began his career with the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, where he was an operations research analyst until his retirement in 1994.
Upon retirement, he devoted his time as a volunteer at the Caledon Natural Area, where he logged over 3,600 hours of service. Visitors would often find him working on the park’s trail system or welcoming and assisting them when they came into the Visitors’ Center.
Mr. Miller’s hobbies included woodworking, motorcycling and gardening.
He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Susan and Katharyn. He is survived by two nephews and a niece.
A celebration of his life was held Saturday, Nov. 10, at Caledon State Park.
