The King George Board of Supervisors recently approved its 2012-2016 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and also adopted the county’s capital projects budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2010-11, which began on July 1. (See related article.)
The CIP is a five-year plan that is updated annually by the Planning Commission and forwarded to the county. County Administrator Travis Quesenberry makes his own adjustments and recommendations and it is an agenda item at a board meeting, with discussion and suggestions made by Supervisors. It was approved last month on June 21.
The CIP is viewed as a guide for planning purposes in future years. Though projects are listed in various years, none of the projects in the 5-year plan are locked into funding for any particular year and are always subject to being pushed into later years or deleted altogether from the CIP.

PARKS & RECREATION -
Six projects estimated at $4,427,000.
PRACTICE LIGHTS AT BALLFIELDS - $60,000 listed in 2012-13 with another $60,000 listed in 2013-14. The completed project is slated to add $6,000 in annual utility costs.

The King George Service Authority Board will hold a public hearing next Tuesday, June 21, on proposed rate increases of 5 percent for water and 12 percent for sewer usage. The proposal would also increase charges for new connections by 5 percent. The meeting begins at 6 p.m.
The new user rates would be reflected in the July billing and would affect utility usage fees for Service Authority customers with water, sewer or both services. Higher charges for new connections would go into effect July 1.
Residential bills for customers with both water and sewer service using up to 5,000 gallons per two-month billing period will go up by $9.01. The minimum bi-monthly bill for water and sewer will go

The King George Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing next Tuesday on a request for a special exception permit for a 195-foot monopole cell tower on the north side of Caledon Road in a wooded residential area containing homes on large lots. The June 7 hearing is set to begin at 6:45 p.m. to take comments from the public.

Candace Brown, King George School division superintendent, was called to the podium to answer questions from supervisors at last Tuesday’s meeting regarding a late-year funding request by the School Board.
She had asked that $413,181 in “unanticipated revenue” be added to the current fiscal year’s 2010-11 budget, which ends next month on June 30.

The King George Board of Supervisors last week spent portions of two work session meetings reviewing several different mapping options for redrawing election districts to conform to population shifts from the 2010 census. (see redistricting maps here)

KING GEORGE -- The Board of Supervisors decided to delay making a decision on private use of the former county animal shelter until late summer.
St. Seton’s Orphaned Animals Executive Director Carl Allard asked the board to consider allowing the organization to lease the vacated building at 11220 Henry Griffin Rd. for use as low cost spay/neuter clinic at the April 5 meeting.
But a study to transform the property into a recreation area is already slated.
Board chair Joe Grzeika said it would be unfair to make a commitment to anyone at this time since the study may show that maintaining the building is not a feasible option.

The founder of St. Seton’s Orphaned Animals is slated to address the Board of Supervisors during the public comment session of the April 5 meeting.
Like any other citizen, Jeanette Allard will be allotted 3 minutes to address the board during the public comment session on general items of interest and/or concern.
