The King George Planning Commission is scheduled to hold public hearings next week on Tuesday, April 9, to take comments on two topics.
One case is to consider an amendment to the subdivision ordinance to allow horses in some subdivisions.

Walmart grand opening rescheduled for August 17, 2011
The King George Gateway retail development in Dahlgren continues to proceed, with approvals granted last week for a final site plan for five retail spaces with roadside visibility from U.S. 301 (James Madison Pkwy).
Access to the site is being provided by two commercial entrances from U.S. 301. The stores will be served

County Planning Commission seeks more answers
A recommendation to go to the King George Board of Supervisors for a special exception permit request for a 195-foot monopole cell tower in a residential subdivision has been postponed.
Following a public hearing on April 12, the Planning Commission voted to put off making a recommendation on the proposed cell tower until they get answers from county staff to some questions
County to present $57M CIP request

The King George Planning Commission next Tuesday will hear details of requested projects for a proposed five-year $56,882,872 Capital Improvements Program (CIP).
Members of the public will also have a chance to comment on the proposed projects.
County Administrator Travis Quesenberry is slated to appear before the commission to provide an overview of the requests and talk about how the CIP process fits into the county budget process.
That will take place next Tuesday, Jan. 11, when a public hearing on the 2011/12-2015/16 CIP is also scheduled. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the boardroom of the Revercomb Building, located on Route 3 behind the King George County Courthouse.
Last month, at its Dec. 14 meeting, Planning Commissioners received copies of all capital requests.
Two new businesses breaking ground

Despite the lagging economy, there is good news that some businesses are going forward with construction plans in King George.
A new Dollar General store is coming to the Courthouse area and McDaniel’s Car Wash is being established in Dahlgren.
The following plats and plans were reviewed and approved by the Planning Commission at its meeting last month on June 8.
WOODLAWN COMMERCIAL SUBDIVISION FINAL SITE PLAN
The Planning Commission provided approval for a request from Carol Kramer and Laura and Harvey Yarus for a final site plan to subdivide property known as Woodlawn (Commercial) Subdivision, Parcel D into two lots.
The property is zoned General Trade (C-2) and identified as Tax Map 24 Parcel 163D. Parcel D contains 4.62 acres in total, with Lot D-1 (on the corner) containing 1.86 acres and Lot D-2 containing 2.76 acres.
It is located on the north side of Route 3 at the intersection of Tinsbloom Mill Lane (Route 1097) with access only to be provided from Tinsbloom Mill Lane.
