A former employee at the Naval Support Facility Dahlgren drew a five year prison term and a lifetime classification as a sex offender as William Edward Pitt, Jr., 71, pled guilty last week to a multitude of counts involving the possession and distribution of child pornography.
The King George man was arrested at his Eden Dr. Home back on July 21, 2011 after a grand jury found reason to charge him last year following a lengthy state police investigation involving child porn website viewers.

Virginia Dominion Power’s plan to bring a 230,000-volt transmission source and substation to the Dahlgren area of King George County is nearing its final milestone as a public hearing for the project has been set for 10 a.m. June 12 in Richmond. After that date, if no hurdles or roadblocks crop up, the Commonwealth’s chief electric power supplier will begin negotiations with county property owners to acquire rights-of-way for 119-foot steel poles that will carry the high voltage lines.

While traveling last summer in Tanzania, Africa, with a dozen adventurous travelers mostly from the King George and Colonial Beach area, our group had an opportunity to go on an exhilarating bicycle safari commencing in Mto wa Mbu Village (pronounced umto wambu), which is near the banks of the renowned Lake Manyara.
The scenery was stunning as we traveled through an extensive green oasis of banana groves and a thick acacia forest, then finally out into a vast open plain near the shores of Lake Manyara, a shallow alkaline lake. On March 29 a thirteen year old female was approached in her front yard by a suspicious group of three adult males in a vehicle at approximately 4 p.m.
The thirteen year old female was in her yard with her dog as the vehicle stopped in front of her house. The driver got out of the vehicle and went and opened the trunk of the car as the passenger attempted conversation with the young female. The passenger of the car then attempted to shake the female’s hand, as the female refused and ran to her house.
The vehicle is described as an older model box style, four door passenger car, dark green in color.
All occupants were white males, aging twenty to thirty.

The Dahlgren Heritage Foundation, with support from the NSWC Federal Credit Union, is planning to send two busloads of King George County students to the biggest science festival in the country for high school and middle school students.
The Foundation, which is collaborating with the U.S. Navy to establish the Dahlgren Heritage Museum in the former Gateway Welcome Center on U.S. 301, is sponsoring the trip to the 2nd USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington on April 28 and 29.
