The new Dahlgren Sweetfrog frozen yogurt store with flavors like island banana, orchard cherry, outrageous orange and mountain blackberry, has only been open for a little over six months, but it is swiftly becoming the place to visit for King George residents.
The new Sweetfrog in Dahlgren is owned by Martino Shon and Heui Lee of King George. Shon owns two other Sweetfrog stores in Northern Virginia. Lee’s family operates the 301 Dry Cleaners in King George.
“We saw several restaurants open up in Dahlgren after Walmart came to town and thought Sweetfrog would make a great place to stop for a sweet treat after a night out to dinner or a little shopping at Walmart,” Shon said.
“King George was an ideal location for a third store, as the Lee family is local, and it was the last open territory available in the state of Virginia,” Shon said.
Offering mouth-watering sweets like peanut butter yogurt with Reese’s Pieces and whipped cream, raspberry pomegranate with fresh fruit, or non-fat favors like alpine vanilla or angel food cake has quickly made Dahlgren’s Sweetfrog a happy stop for area residents.
“Operating a Sweetfrog has been satisfying because our customers love the yogurt and being able to fix it up just the way they like it,” Lee said. “The customer comments we get are ‘It’s like Heaven in here’. Also, ‘You guys have everything’, referring to our topping bar. The atmosphere - bright colors and décor - is often complimented.”
In addition to the several dozen frozen yogurt flavors that are available at Sweetfrog, there is an almost endless toppings bar that includes 40 kinds of toppings for the yogurt, from almonds to strawberries. And Shon and Lee said they would be adding new flavors and new toppings on a regular basis.
“We hope to become known, not only for our great tasting yogurt, but also for the work we do in the community,” Lee said.
“So far, we have had a fundraiser for the King George Chapter of the American Cancer Society, we have sponsored several Vacation Bible Schools, a Catholic Church 4th of July Fundraising Event, KGMS Athletics and, in September, we are teaming up with the the King George High School Class of 2013 to raise money.”
In addition, the Dahlgren Sweetfrog store, which is managed by Rhonda Graves and Ty Sanders, is setting up a collection box for the King George Food Bank.
