Sheriff’s Dept. looking for stolen wood chipper

The King George County Sheriff’s Department is seeking the help of the public in locating a large orange wood chipper that belongs to Asplundh Tree Service. The wood chipper was taken from a work site along Route 3 during a long weekend in February.
Lt. Monty Clift of the sheriff’s department said the wood chipper was left hooked up to a Asplundh truck while the crew returned home for the weekend. “Sometime between Feb. 21 and Feb. 25, someone unhooked the chipper from the truck, hooked it to another vehicle and drove off.”
Asplundh is a contractor doing tree trimming along power lines in King George County for Dominion Virginia Power. Clift said the 2007 Vermeer chipper was stolen from a work site at the intersection of Route 3 and Comorn Rd. over a four-day weekend.
“We are hoping someone will remember seeing activity at that location, a suspicious vehicle or persons, and that something shakes out that will help us find the persons responsible and recover the chipper,” Clift said.
The stolen chipper has a reflective company equipment number, 465-7108, displayed at the rear of the machine. The chipper’s serial number and other identification have been given to the National Crime Information Center’s computerized data based operated by the FBI.
Anyone with information about the stolen chipper or anyone who saw any suspicious activity along Route 3 during the time the large orange chipper was taken is asked to contact Lt. Clift at 540-775-8598.
