Two new All Terrain Vehicles have been received by the King George County Sheriff’s Department courtesy of the King George Department of Fire and Rescue. “We are very thankful for their help,” said King George Sheriff Steve Dempsey.
“The fire department got these for us through an Emergency Services grant,” Dempsey said. “They were purchased, outfitted with decals and blue lights, and a trailer was provided so we can get them where they are needed.”
“It was a gift to the sheriff’s office from the fire department and we are grateful for their assistance,” Dempsey said. Dempsey said the sheriff’s department is going to use the new four wheel ATVs for search and rescue operations.
The Virginia Game Commission has offered to provide certified training on the effective use of the vehicles. Sheriff Dempsey said about 25 officers will be trained to use the two ATVs.
“These four wheelers will be a great asset to search and rescue operations and other incidents requiring an off-road response,” said Dempsey.
