It appears reduced speed and rumble strips are not reducing accidents on the stretch of State Route 205 in front of Halls Supermarket.
At approximately 4:30 p.m. three vehicles where involved in an auto accident in front of the second entrance to the store.
According to the driver, a compact white Nissan pickup truck driven by an adult male was traveling on 205 towards Colonial Beach. The Nissan was behind a large black pickup. Both pickups were in the left turn lane in the center of 205. The large black pickup truck appeared to be turning into the parking lot of the supermarket, when he hesitated and turned back toward the turn lane.
The driver of the Nissan said he turned to go behind the black pickup into the parking lot. His view was blocked to an on coming mini van traveling on Route 205 towards Oak Grove. The Nissan driver said the van struck his pickup truck at the rear tire. As the impact spun his truck around, the Nissan struck a Cadillac waiting to exit the shopping center parking lot.
The driver of the Nissan took full responsibility for his actions at the scene.
The van was reported to have five small children in it. All children appeared to be shook up but there has been no official word on their conditions. The driver of the mini van was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
The Journal did not speak with the occupants of the van who were rightfully upset by the accident.
The driver of the Nissan pickup said he was not injured. The female and male passenger of the Cadillac also reported no injuries to the press.
There will be more details and names when they have been released by the Westmoreland County Sheriffs office.
