All 3 passengers in single-vehicle incident taken to hospitals and are recovering
Colonial Beach, VA (August 20, 2012) - At approximately 9:05 pm on Sunday, August 19, one of the vehicles (Medic 1-4) from Colonial Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad was involved in a single-vehicle accident while returning from taking a patient to Mary Washington Hospital.
According to Wesley Melson, Chief of Colonial Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad, the vehicle was traveling at normal speed limits in non-emergency mode and had no mechanical faults. No patients were on board at the time of the accident. Three crew members were in the vehicle and sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Melson stated that two crew members were transported to Mary Washington Hospital and admitted with some broken bones. A full recovery is expected. The third crew member, who had been trapped in the vehicle for about an hour, was air-lifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital for observation and was released early Monday, August 20.
The Virginia State Police is investigating the accident and Melson also confirmed that the appropriate action would be taken if the cause of the accident is deemed to be driver negligence of some kind.
“These crew members are like family, and we are so thankful that they will recover fully and be able to rejoin our team,” said Melson. “Everyone on the squad pulled together during this emergency and we always appreciate the support of the community. Our primary concern is for the safety of the people that we serve.”
