Rescue Squad accident sends three crew members to hospital.

A single-vehicle accident involving a Rescue Squad may have been due to driver error.
At around 9 p.m. Sunday, August 19 a Colonial Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad, while returning from a transport to the hospital, skidded off the eastbound lane of Route 3 coming to rest on the driver’s side.
Three volunteer members of the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad were in the ambulance and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
No patients were involved in the accident. Two crew members were transported and admitted to MaryWashington Hospital with some broken bones according to a press release from Rescue Chief, Wesley Melson. The third crew member, and driver of the vehicle was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital for observation and released early Monday morning.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. State police reported the driver overcompensated when the vehicle ran off the shoulder.
Chief Melson reported in his press release that the vehicle was traveling at normal speed in non-emergency mode and had no mechanical faults.
All crew members are expected to fully recover. More details will be forthcoming in the August 22 edition of The Journal.
