There will be an organizational meeting of a new 4-H group on December 16 at 7pm in the Richmond County Extension Office in Warsaw. This new group is forming with the goal of organizing a local Envirothon Team.
The Virginia Envirothon is a natural resources competition for high school students. Students who participate learn stewardship and management concepts and work to solve real and hypothetical environmental problems. The program is field-oriented, community based and give students an opportunity to work with natural resource professionals.
Participants gain a deeper knowledge of the following:
• the effect individual actions have on environmental problems
• the interactions and inter-dependencies of our environment
• current environmental issues
• the agencies available to assist them in resource protection concerns
• the need to become environmentally aware, action-oriented adults
Please come to the organizational meeting to see what it’s all about. If you are a person with a disability and desire any assistive devices, services or other accommodations to participate in this activity, please contact Teresa at the Richmond County Extension Office at 804-333-3420/TDD*) during business hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to discuss accommodations 5 days prior to the event. *TDD number is (800) 828-1120.
