Several weeks ago, the Virginia Democrat party took a video recording of one of Catherine Crabill’s speeches, had it edited, placed it on the Internet, and supplied the false statements to news outlets. The edited version cherry-picked the speech to make it appear that Mrs. Crabill was encouraging violence as a means of removing from office those in the current administration who are trampling on the Constitution of the United States. When in fact, Mrs. Crabill was encouraging voters to use the ballot box to affect the sorely needed changes.
Well, not surprisingly, the current Delegate for the 99th District, Mr. Albert Pollard, seeing a political opportunity, though false, jumped on the message published in the edited video. Either Mr. Pollard did not take the time to read the full transcript of the speech, was not interested in the truth, or just chose to ignore it before he launched an attack on Catherine Crabill. He accused her of encouraging violence stating that he would have no part of such tactics, or words to that effect.
Congratulations to Albert Pollard; Bob McDonnell, gubernatorial candidate; Pat Mullins, Virginia’s Republican Party chairman; Bill Bolling, Virginia’s lieutenant governor; and Ken Cuccinelli, candidate for attorney general, all believed the falsely reported statements. Again, I fear that these individuals failed to conduct the proper research before they jumped to conclusions. Congressman Rob Wittman was a bit more politic in his approach, and chose not to support or oppose Catherine Crabill.
Even more surprising and disappointing was the fact that two 99th District Republican county committees, Westmoreland and Caroline, conceded the seat to a Democrat by voting not to nominate Mrs. Crabill to run against Albert Pollard. The reason given was that she was “too right wing.” I assume that that term is used to describe those conservatives who believe in smaller government, lower taxes, government according to the Constitution (including states’ rights), restrained spending, individual self determination, free markets, Christian values, and defense of the unborn. If that is the definition of “too right wing”, I am one of those patriots. Though I am against abortion, I strongly feel that Democrats, Republicans, and the government have no business dictating anything on this topic. Abortion is between the woman, the husband, and their Creator.
Finally, it’s a sad day when Republicans, so-called conservatives, are willing to concede a district to a Democrat — and a Democrat who speaks in moderate tones, but can be counted on to support virtually every liberal, Democrat issue upon which he is asked to vote. And, when is the last time a Democrat denounced another Democrat considered to be “too left wing”?
I am encouraged that we still have someone like Catherine Crabill who will challenge this recklessness and passionately support and defend the Constitution of the United States. We’ve seen what the “moderates” have brought us: Governor and Senator Warner, Governor Kaine, John McCain and now President Obama. I urge everyone who cares about the future of this Country, and the 99th District to vote for Catherine Crabill on Nov. 3, 2009.
