Saadet Hines
Saadet Hines, 51, of King George County passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Saadet was born in Adapazar, Turkey. She was a clothing designer, a member of King George Garden Club and Master Gardener Society.
She is survived by her husband, Chris W. Hines; three stepchildren, Christopher, Kyle, and Megan; her mother, Melek Cologlu of Turkey; and four brothers, Oktai Cologlu, Recai Cologlu, Orhan Cologlu and Osman Cologlu, all of Turkey.
A funeral was held Saturday, Jan. 28, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George.
Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Saadet’s name to the charity of one’s choice.

Rachael R. Harrington
Rachael Rudacille Harrington, 96, of Montross, formerly of Front Royal, died Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Hidden Springs Senior Living in Bentonville. She was the wife of the late Clyde Lee Harrington.
Mrs. Harrington was born January 1, 1916, in Rappahannock Co., daughter of Edward E. Rudacille and Mariah Best Rudacille Moss.
She was retired from the Food Service Division of the Arlington Public School System. She was a member of the Front Royal United Methodist Church having served in the Martha’s Circle. She was the oldest living member of the Front Royal Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Surviving are a daughter Joy Harrington Bishop of Montross; a sister Gloria Martin of South Boston; two grandsons David B. Bishop, Jr. of Payton, Colorado and Clyde W. Bishop of Pueblo, Colorado; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Front Royal United Methodist Church and was conducted by The Rev. Gary Heaton.
Entombment followed in Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester.

Sally Huxtable Hammond
Sally Huxtable Hammond, 79, of Colonial Beach passed away Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at her daughter’s home.
Sally was born May 10, 1932, in Surrey, England, to the late Tom and Kit Redford.
She had retired from the Colonial Beach school system after a long career as a school secretary. She was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Colonial Beach, and supported many ministries there. She also enjoyed time with the Methodist Church exercise group and her monthly card group.
Sally will be remembered for her kind heart, quick smile and contagious laugh. Her loving spirit is a legacy she leaves to all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Thomas Huxtable (Johnna), of Virginia Beach and Catherine Jones (Brent), of Colonial Beach. Sally also had two grandchildren, Wesley Jones (Michelle), and Kayla Jones.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Sterling Huxtable, and Glenn Hammond.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, at the church.

Norman Edward Stepney
Norman Edward Stepney, 71, of Port Royal passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Norman was born July 13, 1940, in King George and worked as a truck driver for more than 30 years.
He is survived by daughters, Brenda Cannon of Centreville, Janet Brown of Fredericksburg and Stephanie Stepney-Sciascia of King George; one son, Norman E. Stepney Jr. of San Bernardino, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Blanche Frye; his father, James Peyton; and daughter Maria Stepney.
There was a service Friday, Jan. 13, at the First Baptist Church of Ambar, King George, with the Rev. William Frye officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Memorial donations be made to the Kidney Foundation or Mary Washington Hospice.

Penny B. Coleman
Penny B. Coleman, 69, of Fredericksburg passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mrs. Coleman was a native of Fredericksburg and the daughter of the late Harold Doggett and Frances Snellings Brown. She was a graduate of James Monroe High School.
She was the widow of Carlton C. Coleman and was preceded in death by a brother, Sammy B. Brown.
Survivors include her two sons; Steven C. Coleman (Karen), of King George and Mark S. Coleman of Fredericksburg; and one sister, Lisabeth B. Graninger of Fredericksburg.
No memorial service is planned. Burial will be private.

William H. Green, Jr.
William H. Green, Jr. of Tappahannock, VA, departed this life Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital.
He is survived by his son, Leroy S. Green of Tappahannock, his daughter, Fay R. Nance of Millersville, MD, and one brother, James Henry Green of Spotsylvania.
The funeral service was held Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Supply. The Reverend Irvin Woolfolk, Pastor officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Elaine M. McCullough
Elaine M. McCullough, 68, of King George County passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Elaine was born and raised in PA, and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in King George. She was a gentle soul who always saw the good in everyone and was happiest when she was helping others.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 42 years, John M. McCullough of the home; a daughter, Jane M. McCullough of San Diego, CA; two sons, John J. McCullough (Leslie), of King George and Michael G. McCullough (Rebekah), of Moorefield, WV ; and three grandchildren, Isabel and Olivia of King George and Aubrey of Moorefield.
The funeral was held Sunday, Jan. 15, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, with the Rev. Terry Naumann officiating.
Interment was Monday, Jan. 16, in Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA.

Patsy Young Hawker
Patsy Young “Pat” Hawker, 77, of Fredericksburg died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at her home.
Mrs. Hawker had retired from Central Fidelity Bank, originally Rappahannock Savings and Loan. She was the daughter of the late William D. and Katherine McGhee Young and was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Evans Niemann.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne D. Hawker; her two sons, Marc S. Pritchett (Barbara), of Juneau, AK, and Craig A. Pritchett (Lillian), of Spotsylvania County; two stepsons, Darren M. Hawker (Tonya), of Mechanicsville and Mark S. Hawker (Kelly), of Richmond; her brother, William D. Young Jr. of Waldorf, Md.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her very close friends Grady and Terry Stout of Fredericksburg and Bob and Suzanne Marshall of King George County.
The family received friends Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery.

Alice Gertrude Zorn
Alice Gertrude Zorn, 86, of King George County passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mrs. Zorn was a member of Two Rivers Baptist Church and sang in its choir.
Survivors include her son, Reggie Zorn (Debbie); her daughter, Karen Smith (Casey); her sisters, Burnley “Sparky” Grady and Grace Shelton; her grandchildren, Reggie “Sport” Zorn (Sally), Danny Good (Deanna), Mark Good (Kristin), Kimberly Perkins (Tom), John Burgess (Bridget), Zachary Zorn and Kelli Zorn; 17 great-grandchildren; her caregivers, Tenessa Shank, Cherika Cole and Vivian Shank; and her dog, Max.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Coleman Zorn, and her brothers, William J. Fines, Vernon Reed Fines and Kenneth Hall “Jim” Fines.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens,

Thomas “Wayne” Garnett
Thomas “Wayne” Garnett, 62, of King George County passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home.
Wayne was a graduate of King George High School (1968) and joined the United States Air Force shortly after. He was a Vietnam War veteran and worked as a construction worker in Louisiana before returning to King George where he continued to work construction.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Charles and Elizabeth Garnett.
Wayne is survived by a brother, John F. Garnett (Vickie), of King George; two sisters, Gloria Burrell (Buddy), of King George, and Laura Sumner of Orlando, FL; one aunt, Virgie Farmer of Fredericksburg; two uncles, Aubrey Green and Kelly Green both of King George; four nieces and four nephews; five great nieces and six great nephews; family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Edna L. Bredland
Edna L. Bredland, 89, died Wednesday, January 12, 2012 in Silver Spring, MD. She is preceded in death by her husband Ralph Andrew Bredland and her granddaughter, Tammy Murray.
Born in Missouri, she graduated from business school, moved to Washington DC and worked at the Department of war. She married and spent the remainder of her life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her son Bruce Bredland (Kathy), of Laurel, MD; her daughter, Drue Murray, of Colonial Beach, VA; grandchildren, Patrick (Alice), Colleen (Andrew), Daniel (Maureen), Sarah and Christopher (Nichol); and great grandchildren, Suzanna, Hailey, Cadence, Samuel, and Alexana.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Riderwood, Oak Grove, 3160 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, MD, 20904. The inurnment service at Arlington National Cemetery will be scheduled for a later date.

Vincent Lee Martin
Vincent Lee “Vince” Martin, 40, of Ladysmith died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at his home.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Sharon Noszek-Prouty and Woodrow L. Prouty of Ladysmith; his brother, Timothy R. Noszek Jr. of Spotsylvania County; stepbrothers Billy Prouty of Ladysmith, Tommy Prouty of Spotsylvania and Kyle Prouty of King George County; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 7, in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.

Annie S. Vargo
Mrs. Annie S. Vargo, 87, a lifelong resident of King George County, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at her home.
She was the wife of the late Paul Vargo. Annie had retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren, after 38 years as an administrative officer. She was a faithful lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church of King George where she served God with beautiful music as the organist for more than 60 years.
Annie loved life and it loved her back. Above all, she loved her faith, family and friends and a good laugh. She had a passion for being outside, gardening or cutting her grass, and playing the organ. She made many friends at work and in her community.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Ulysses and Isabella Staples, and two brothers, Roy and Joe.
Annie is survived by her daughter, Karen Ann Vargo-King (Mike), of Warrenton; her son, Wesley Dean Vargo (Vickie), of Castle Rock, CO; two grandchildren, Brandon Vargo and Michelle Vargo; one stepgrandchild, Michael A. King (Sunny); one stepgreat-grandchild, Dawson King; two sisters-in-law, Heleyn Suhoza and Mary Agnes Kapelewski; two nieces; one great-niece; one great-nephew; one great-great-niece; and three great-great-nephews. Also surviving are a special cousin, Catherine DeBernard, and her family and friends, many of whom are extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 13, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, 11089 James Madison Parkway, King George.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 9425 Kings Highway, King George.

Mary Elizabeth Golden
Mary Elizabeth Golden, 91, of Port Royal went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at her residence.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Yvonne Harper (and Bernard) and Jacquelyn Gaines (and William); four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; a devoted housemate and friend, Elizabeth Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, Jan. 6, at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Bowling Green. A celebration of life was held Saturday, Jan. 7, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Supply.
The Rev. Irving Woolfolk Jr. delivered the eulogy. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

William Nick Burrell, Jr.
William Nick Burrell, Jr., 81, of King George died on January 10, 2012 at his home following many years battling prostate cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
He was a lifelong resident of King George County, born June 6, 1930 to the late Nick and Essie Woodall Burrell.
Nick worked 20 years at FMC and retired from Quantico Marine Base in 1990 after 22 years of civil service. He enjoyed building houses and took great pride in his craftsmanship. He was a longtime member of Potomac Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Choir Member. He was a past volunteer for King George VFD. Nick loved gardening and providing family and friends with his harvest. He was an avid turkey hunter, loving to “call in” a gobbler.
He is survived by his son Rod Burrell (Kay), of King George; daughter Rhonda L. Burrell and husband, Denny Botkin, of Englewood, FL; grandchildren Christin Perry (Rob), of Ashburn, and Nicholas Burrell of Aldie; great-grandchildren Noah and Natalie Perry of Ashburn; brother Russell Burrell of Norfolk, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Cornelia “Nene” Burrell; his parents; his brothers Fred and Frank Burrell of Dahlgren and James Burrell of King George.
Mr. Burrell was blessed for three years with tender care at home by Phyllis Jett, Mary Byrd, Renee Johnson and Cozetta Pryor. For all their kindness and capabilities the family is deeply grateful.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Agnes Irene Beverly
Sister Agnes Irene Beverly departed this life on Christmas Day, Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at 12:55 p.m. at her home in King George County.
Mrs. Beverly was born Feb. 6, 1919, in Wampum, PA, to the late Mr. James Henry Holmes and Mrs. Lucy Ann Holmes.
Mrs. Beverly confessed faith in Christ and joined Peoples Union Baptist Church at an early age, under the leadership of the Rev. Tyler. She was a devoted member, and served as a young adult in the Rev. Tyler’s Amen Corner.
She was a cornerstone of the church. She sang in the senior choir for more than 40 years, and served as its president under the leadership of the Rev. William Brown; served as church financial secretary for more than 41 years; served as a trustee for more than 50 years; and served as a missionary for more than 30 years. She established and was president of the Pastor’s Aide Club for the Rev. Brown, and was president and a member of the usher board for 30 years. She was an inspiration and initiator of fund-raising and special programs in the church.
She was also president of the PTA at Ralph J. Bunche High School for one year, owned Red Top Grill Restaurant in Edgehill for more than seven years, had her own line of clothing, and designed garments for herself and others bearing her own label, “Made Especially by Agnes Beverly.” She baked homemade cakes, pies and rolls, taking them to church to share with members on Sundays. She was always ready to serve, and prepared food during special occasions at the church.
She was a CNA at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, King George; a senior cook at Circle Restaurant, King George; and a waitress at the General Washington Inn, Fredericksburg.
Mrs. Beverly was united in holy matrimony in 1935 to James Franklin Beverly, who preceded her in death in 1992. To this union of 62 years, six children were born.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Lucy Beverly of Myrtle Beach, SC; her sons, James Beverly of Burkeville, William Beverly of Silver Spring, MD, and Albert Beverly of King George; two sisters, Mary Watson of Goldvein and Martha Beverly of Goodyear, AZ; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Holmes and Laura Holmes, both of Comorn; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral was held Saturday, Dec. 31, at People’s Union Baptist Church, King George, with viewing one hour prior to the service. Lee Funeral Home, Warsaw, is handling the arrangements.
Ronald E. Smith
Ronald E. Smith, 64, of Colonial Beach passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at his home.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Smith; two daughters, Lisa Marie Ringuette (David), and Christy Lee Smith (Craig); a son, Ronald Smith Jr.; a “special daughter,” Gay Laxton; and five grandchildren, Jessica, Ashley, Derek, Nehemiah and Tony.
A funeral was held Saturday, Dec. 31, at Colonial Beach Baptist Church, with the Rev. Johnny Almond officiating. Interment followed at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oak Grove.

Harry Junior Deale
Harry Junior Deale, 83, of Spotsylvania County passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at his home.
Mr. Deale was born May 8, 1928, in Brokenburg, the son of the late Harry Deale Sr. and Rowena Sorrell Deale.
He was also a member of Hebron Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Iris Simms Deale; a daughter, Leona Deale Williams (Russell), of King George; a son, Ricky Deale (Cyndi), of Spotsylvania; two granddaughters, Chelsea and Carlee Deale; two great-granddaughters, Ashley Beckham and Courtney Marshall; one great-grandson, Tanner Marshall; honorary daughter Mary Napier (Clyde); and sister Alma Deale Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Edward Marshall Jr., in 2005; sisters Audrey Deale Oakes and Lois Deale Williams; and his brothers, Marvin S. Deale and Glenroy Deale, who was killed in 1950 in the Korean War.
A service was held Saturday, Dec. 31, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Bob Ellinger and the Rev. Carol M. Markham officiating. Burial followed in Hebron Baptist Church cemetery.

Betty F. Bailey
Betty F. Bailey, 89, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.
She was a native of Ivor and lived there most of her life. Her last years were spent with her son, Martin Bailey, in Dahlgren.
She was a homemaker and worked 11 years as a teacher’s aide at Ivor Elementary School. She loved her church and served in numerous ministries throughout the years.
Survivors include son Martin Bailey of Dahlgren; brothers John T. Faircloth Jr. and Hermer H. Faircloth; sister Selma Graves; grandson Mark Bailey; and two great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John T. Faircloth Sr. and Hope S. Faircloth; husband John Earl Bailey Sr.; son John Earl Bailey Jr.; and brother Allen Faircloth.
A funeral was conducted Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at Ivor Baptist Church with the Rev. Chad McGinnis and the Rev. Cliff Hedges officiating.

Donald Edward Dobson
Donald Edward Dobson, 64, of King George County died Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at his home.
Mr. Dobson had retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren. Most recently, he was the owner and operator of Double D Lawn Service.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah “Debbie” Dobson; his daughter, Tammy Lynn Barnett; two grandchildren, Shawn Thompson and Samantha Sullivan; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Louise Dobson; his brother, Kenneth Dobson; and his sister, Cecilia DeShazo.
A service was held Tuesday, Jan. 3, at the Covenant Funeral home. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Pearl Lorraine Pekar
Pearl Lorraine Billiot Pekar, 83, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Pearl was born June 6, 1928, in Alton, IL, to Joseph Alvin and Ruth Cook Billiot. She majored in music, science and English at Columbia College in South Carolina. Pearl married Michael Aloysius Pekar in 1952 and raised three children. She received her master’s degree in education from the Univ. of VA in 1970. Pearl worked in Virginia public schools for more than 30 years as a teacher and administrator; she was one of the first female principals in the state. In 1991, she co-founded Ambassadors Christian Academy in King George. She retired in 1996.Serving the Lord was her highest priority. Pearl was active in the Catholic church; she and husband Michael helped establish several parishes in rural locations, and she served as a CCD director and RCIA teacher. She was a charter member of the Women’s Club in King George.
She leaves behind daughter Jessie Pekar Earles, (Larry), and grandsons Timothy and Jonathan of Houston, TX; son Michael Pekar Jr., (Mary Kay), and grandchildren Ruth, Beth and Charles of Lamberton, MN; son John Paul Pekar, his wife, Kara, and granddaughter Amanda of King George; and brothers Harry and Alvin Billiot of SC.
The family will receive friends at Nash & Slaw funeral home, King George, from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5. The funeral will be at Sacred Heart Chapel, NSWC Dahlgren, at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery at 11 a.m.

Helen Marie Dickinson
Helen Marie Craun Dickinson, 98, entered into the presence of the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, in Melbourne, FL, surrounded by her family.
Born May 11, 1913, in Mount Sidney, VA, she was the daughter of John Elmer Craun and Clara Bell Landes. She was married to the late James M. Dickinson of Index, and was previously a member of Colonial Beach Baptist Church, Colonial Beach.
Helen was predeceased by her husband, James; son Robert L. Dickinson; sister Evelyn Craun Gray; and brother John Leslie Craun.
Survivors include her daughter, Lois Smith (Ron) of Melbourne; five grandchildren, Karen McPherson (Keith) of Palm Bay, FL, Christine Mingonet (Scott) of Fort Mill, SC, Steven Smith of Melbourne, Ryan Dickinson of Palm Coast, FL, and Corey Dickinson of Deltona, FL; five great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Tyler Mingonet and Rachel, Sarah and Jacob McPherson; brother Merlin Craun of Lebanon, Pa.; sister-in-law, Leola D. Dennison of Index in King George County; and numerous loved nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at Round Hill Baptist Church, 16519 Round Hill Road, King George, with a viewing prior to the service at noon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. After the burial, the family will receive friends at a reception in the church fellowship hall.
Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, will coordinate final arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Helen’s memory to Round Hill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 467, King George, VA 22485.

Jean S. Clare
Jean S. Clare passed from this world Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, surrounded by her family and friends at Mary Washington Hospital.
She lived life surrounded by family, friends and an abundance of loved ones who must now cope with this tremendous loss.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred Miller and William P. Dalton; a brother, Harold Nelson Dalton; and, most recently, her husband, Robert L. Clare III, who passed just a year before her.
Jean is survived by two sisters, Rozella Seaman of King George and Lois Ponder (Charles) of Ladysmith; five children, Dale Sisson (Myrtle), Dickie Sisson (Denise), Bonnie Rollins (Carl), Carol Porter (Tony) and Pam Garcia (Nicki); and a stepdaughter, Linda Clare (Sue); all of King George; 11 grandchildren, Dale Sisson Jr., Michael Sisson, Ashley Sisson, Amanda Sisson, Richard Sisson, Becky Skebo, C.W. Rollins, Candi Porter, Caryn Porter, Danielle Garcia and Nicholas Garcia; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom will cherish the memories that they shared with Jean.
The memory of her humorous and loving nature will be sure to provide comfort for her loved ones during this difficult time. Jean lived a generous and kind life.
She was a lifetime member of the Dahlgren Rescue Squad, and enjoyed regaling others with stories of times spent on the squad. She owned and operated Clare Ambulance Service, by which she provided care to her patients and to those who worked with her.
She was a member of Round Hill Baptist Church, where she participated in the activities of the Young at Heart Sunday school class.
She will surely be remembered for her beneficent personality, which was recognizable even to a stranger. She will be greatly missed, and will forever remain in our hearts.
Visitation for family and friends was held Thursday, Dec. 22, at Nash and Slaw Funeral Home in King George.
A service was held Friday, Dec. 23, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, King George. Interment followed at Round Hill Baptist Church cemetery, King George. Family and friends received guests at Tabernacle Baptist Church following the service.

Lois Marie Brown
Lois Marie Brown, 55, of Fredericksburg passed away Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at her residence surrounded by her family.
She is survived by four daughters, Lyndsey, Casey, Kimmie and Danielle Brown, all of Fredericksburg; nine grandchildren; her parents, Elsworth and Lois Sheppard; three brothers; and three sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the family receiving friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.

Mary J. Redmond
Mary J. Redmond, 73, of Montross passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital after a long battle with diabetes and heart failure. God extended his almighty hand of love and took her to eternal life.
She was born Dec. 3, 1938, to the late Charlie and Julia Johnson.
She leaves behind her husband, David Redmond; her children; her grandchildren; and her great-grandchildren.
A wake was held for family and friends Thursday, Dec. 22, at Siloam Baptist Church, in Montross. A funeral was held Friday, Dec. 23, at the church, with the Rev. Connie Jones Jr. officiating.
William G. Wood
William G. “Bill” Wood, 86, of King George County went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011.
Survivors include his two children, son Dwight Wood and daughter Vickie Anderson (James), all of King George. He also is survived by his sisters, Annie Brown and Minnie Lemley and his brother, Larry Wood, all of North Carolina. Bill also had seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.
He was a member of King George Church of God.
His life was celebrated with a visitation Monday, Dec. 26, at Nash and Slaw Funeral Home, King George. A service was held at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Lance Bacon officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, in Bethany Cemetery, Baldwin, NC.

Margaret H. Ratcliffe
Margaret H. Ratcliffe, 88, of Fredericksburg died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at The Crossings at Falls Run.
Mrs. Ratcliffe was extremely active in community affairs with her late husband, Wilbur Stuart Ratcliffe Jr.
She was a member of the Lions Club for more than 40 years and was active in Shrine clubs and the Spotsylvania Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of James Monroe Chapter United Daughters of 1812, Ladies Oriental Shrine, Accaba Court and Order of the Eastern Star King Carter Chapter. She was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church.
Survivors include two sons, Stuart Douglas Ratcliffe (Nancy), of Jacksonville, FL, and Wilbur Stanley Ratcliffe (Martha), of Haymarket; grandchildren Andrew Ratciffe (Marie), Michael Ratcliffe, Jennifer Ratcliffe Largen (David), Kelly Ratcliffe Hall (Brian), Kathryn Ratcliffe and Alexander Ratcliffe; and two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Ratcliffe and Audra Hall. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Adelaide Ratcliffe Agrelius.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Stuart Ratcliffe Jr.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
